It is important that you get checks carried out on the condition of the electrics in your home at regular intervals, as over time electrical installations will naturally deteriorate. Similar to an MOT on your car, the checks will identify any faults or defects which could require improvement & will ensure the electrical installations in your home are safe and effective. An electrical installation condition report (EICR) identifies any damage, deterioration, defects which may give rise to danger along with observations for which improvement is recommended. It is a detailed report & will involve the testing of various circuits which will require the isolation of the electrics at the main supply. This allows the electrical engineer to identify any possible hidden defects or issues. Homeowners often ask for a condition report as part of a house sale. There is currently no regulation regarding how often an electrical inspection should be carried out for the general public. However, NICEIC (National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting) recommend that an EICR is carried out every 10 years in a privately-owned home. It is a mandatory requirement for Landlords in the private rented sector to have electrical safety checks carried out to their properties every 5 years.
An EICR normally costs between £140 - £160. ****Until 30th October 2023 we are able to offer the safety check & report (EICR) for £100 ****
